The Word on the Street Is . . . Après-ski

With the snowy season upon us, it’s time to wax your skis and see if you can still squeeze into your snowsuit after all those Christmas cookies. Let’s be honest here, half the motivation for skidding down the slopes is the après-ski, especially if you’re like me and it’s been 20 years since you tossed yourself down the icy inclines.

Après-ski (literally after-skiing) is the fun stuff that happens after you dodge the pine trees, extract yourself from a snow bank, and survive the rope tow (what you get when you opt for the cheapo pass). A traditional après-ski consists of numbing your aching muscles with alcohol aplenty, thawing your frozen extremities by a fire, and mingling with singles from all over the world.

If you’re smart, you’ll skip the steep lift ticket price, keep all your limbs intact, and head straight for the lodge. Sport your cutest alpine sweater and drop a few lines like “That’s so off-piste” and “Check out the pow, man.” No one will be the wiser. After all, après-ski is all about the attitude.
